This painting is based on a scene ‘Band of Brothers’ in the Ardenne in 1944. The US Rangers were dug in ready for what was later called ‘The Battle of the Bulge’.

It was a cold winter morning. The light was fogging the trees and the men were quietly waiting in their foxholes for the battle to come.

At the far side of the trees they could hear the provocative presence and aggressive voices of the enemy shouting to remind them they were coming.

Between us and our enemy is one piece of wood. The Cross of Christ and though today we may be facing what appears to be fearful odds remember the victory is ours. All we need to do is stand.
